Pros
A lot of genuinely nice colleagues
Cons
A lot of red flags in the field team: Around 50% of all AEs I know are on PIP. Every month is a bad month so don’t expect more than 40% of your on-target commission. Middle management is disastrous: Most of the good ones have left. The ones remaining don’t understand what they do so they mainly focus on superfluous internal activities and initiatives who don’t add any value. My own manager hasn’t given a demo In the last 5+ years so can’t teach us anything. Top down approach: you’re not allowed to speak to anyone more senior than your manager without their permission. There is no sales/presales strategy: since the revenue is so bad, leadership panics and forces you to pursue every deal in the pipeline even though a lot of them will never be sold since they’re clearly not a fit. Very high turnover: The whole mid-market sales team has been fired about 2 months ago due to the company not performing well and now they are looking for the same positions again. This is not the first time. Every good colleague I know in the field team who has been with Contentful for a couple months either has a new job offer or is actively looking. Your colleagues will change on a monthly basis. Career opportunities: Very, very little salary increases and expect to wait 3-4 years minimum for very small promotions. If your manager gets promoted, you might, not because of your work. Many of the good comments you see here are from colleagues who have just joined and are being asked by their managers to write a good review, hence, it’s all about onboarding.
