Pros

The company made me pro union.

Cons

A disconnect from the real world by senior management. The Corporation does not allow local management to make decisions. Some salary positions may make "approved" overtime, but often may work for "free". If you are knowledgeable and prove to be a good worker you will be rewarded with more "opportunities". The pay for being available all of the time was not high enough. There were no boundaries. External employees hired into the industry are not mentored creating a lot of extra work and problems for most. There is a reason why most departments are short staffed and turnover is high. Due to geographic restrictions there is a. Fairly high nepotism rate. The complexity of nepotism and needless politics have made this a generally unfriendly work environment. People are always why a place is great. They are also the reason a place is not so great. There are some dedicated and knowledgable individuals that still work there. Some internal hires to not understand their new role and create a lot of turmoil. There is no structured mentorship or oversight for most new employees. Excessive amount of Fast Track Changes. Some groups are accounted for and external resources are hired to help. Out of still believing nuclear to be our best power option I will leave it at that. One of the worst PM programs I have seen, especially given the number of procedures, meetings and individuals involved. Increasingly complex and poorly designed administrative procedures with no higher overview or understanding of their impact. If you are doing an excellent job and no one can easily step in you will not have a career/position change unless you play the "games". Virtually no manager or supervisor oversight. If one or both are bad you have little recourse.

Pros

Coworkers are all intelligent and overall good people to spend 12hrs a day with.

Cons

The department is perpetually understaffed. You’ll never actually work an 8hr shift, because no one is dumb enough to vote for that schedule. There’s not enough operators to fill the schedule without being forced all the time for 16hr shifts. Be prepared to be forced for OT on a regular basis even with a 12hr schedule. If your family is important, then this probably is not a good long-term plan. You’re going to miss sports, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, etc. You live at work and home is a place you sleep. The company might advertise company holidays, but that just means you get paid a little more for being here on those days.
