Pros

Am writing this review for balance because, while other people are of course entitled to their views and I can see where they’re coming from, I wouldn’t consider Connected Voice a 1-star employer by any means. You get a great deal of autonomy, the work is very flexible, and holiday entitlement is better than in many places. They also don’t have draconian sickness absence procedures and they treat people like humans in this regard (which was a relief for me relative to prior employment!) Colleagues are focussed but also friendly and warm, everyone is largely supportive of everyone else. CEO is driven but also very personable and passionate about the cause.

Cons

In a small team, it can be hard not to absorb the frustrations of others, but then this isn’t unique to Connected Voice. There are also no clear progression routes, but again, this is hardly unique to Connected Voice! It’s a small organisation and everyone does what they can. Workloads can be intense but this seems to be typical of the voluntary sector in 2024.

Pros

Positive culture, open and accountable. Great staff benefits. Very good diversity in staff team and board.

Cons

Had some problems with toxic staff (see the other reviews)... who have thankfully now all moved on!

Pros

Decent employee benefits and wages. There are some nice and genuine people working at the coalface of communities.

Cons

My worst working experience. The very senior leadership is toxic. The cunningness, ability to be manipulative, disconnection from empathy and emotion, enjoyment in using whatever means necessary to gain power, misogyny - and narcissistic one-upmanship over perceived subordinates, (like the 16c Italian philosopher himself), seems rather apt to say the least. Ensure you make a record of anything that causes you concern as HR practices are extremely dodgy and if your face doesn't fit or you express concern about practices, they will get rid of you swiftly. This organisation is more concerned with it's image, being important in the region and acquiring funding, than actual value or benefit to those it purports to serve. Outwardly they are a successful, forward thinking organisation, but don't be fooled, there are deep running problems within management. I left with my morale rock bottom and confidence destroyed through micro aggressions and passive aggressive treatment as soon as I had the audacity to ask difficult questions. I know for a fact others have had similar experiences to me. Other senior leaders look the other way.
