Pros

Overview: I’ve been at Computer Courage 9 years. I've never worked at a place where my impact has made such a difference to the end product. I enjoy the clients I work with, the other team members, and my own responsibilities. There are benefits including retirement plan (with company contribution) and healthcare. Technical/Process: When I started I was able to help craft the core website product which is still offered today. As a medium sized company (~20) it’s awesome to be able to enhance processes and continue to integrate new technologies. My supervisor is always willing to listen to new ideas and see how we can fold them into our workflows. Over the years I’ve been able to take on many hats which has allowed me to grow my abilities and learn new skills, then use those to increase capabilities of clients’ sites and the Web Department. The Computer Courage mission isn’t one focused on using the cutting edge latest technologies, but rather the most effective solutions for the customer’s needs. Staff & Culture: This is my number one item. Everyone at Computer Courage is a team player and always willing to help, ranging from the PMs and Devs I work with day to day to staff I rarely talk to in the IT Dept. Everyone is willing to help and I’ve never felt hostility from any of my team members. We do occasional happy hours, lunches, and events as well which are always fun.

Cons

At times I’ve struggled with being overloaded, but it’s always been handled in a reasonable way. Whether the solution is shifting responsibilities, or hiring a new team member I’ve never felt frowned upon for not completing every task when this happens.

Pros

Great place to start your career and learn some invaluable skills. The clients are great to work with and are super friendly. The expectations are always clearly laid out and suggestions on how to improve if the expectations are not met. Management is always willing to listen and help with career growth even if it is not with them.

Cons

Reimbursements are once a month so it feels you are out of pocket for parking/tolls. Opportunities to work with new technologies is limited.

Pros

-- Work/Life balance: Staff at Computer Courage had a very consistent schedule, and there was never any expectation or pressure to work overtime or weekends, unless reasonably required for a specific project. -- Owner (Adam): In my role at Computer Courage, I worked closely with Adam, the owner. This was a highlight of my time there, as Adam was incredibly supportive, encouraging of professional growth, and collaborative in project work. Furthermore, I believe his general approach to growing the business and working with customers had a large impact on the stability and health of the company and its staff. -- Office perks: On a smaller note, it was great that the office supplied standing desks, and had snacks, drinks, etc. regularly available to staff.

Cons

-- Ultimately, the biggest issue I ran into at Computer Courage was that my preferred career path did not end up matching the position I held. After more than a year, I decided to leave to pursue a different job type that was not offered at Computer Courage. -- The office itself can be very quiet, and is not a very social environment day-to-day. A large part of this is due to the fact that the IT team is most often out in the field at appointments, and not in the office.
