Pros

The field staff have great hearts and skill. Families are provided with great care despite lack of support from supervisors through upper management.

Cons

No raises; preshool level games designed by management to address paperwork rather than serious training; supervisors with no field experience; policies that conflict with Medicare guidelines; frequent layoffs; high caseloads; staff are assigned all over the place and mileage is paid at $0.44 a mile; and upper management who do not listen to field staff and behave embarassingly at company functions.

Pros

The feedback one gets from working with the patients is very rewarding. As a nurse working with a patient and his or her family, I am able to concentrate on just them at that moment. Working one-on-one makes me feel very effective and thorough. Hospice patients are almost always very thankful for their nurses and other caregivers. Also, the nurses, clergy, and social workers that are in the field with the patients are a stellar group to work with. I am proud to be in their company!

Cons

Companion is lacking in the leadership department. That is, the nurse supervisors, DON, and administrator. They are knowledgeable and likable, but when it comes to giving support to the nurses in the field, and being effective communicators, they leave much to be desired.
