Pros

In my 10+ years working at ComPsych in 3 different roles, I have found my time filled with learning experiences and growth. ComPsych is a very stable company as the pioneer and world's largest provider of employee assistance programs and is world-renowned in the EAP field. As a result, I feel proud when I mention our company to others - there is often instant recognition, and many acquaintances have shared that their employer uses ComPsych as their EAP vendor or that we have given terrific service to their friend/family member who was in need. ComPsych ensures that employees are aware of our contributions by sharing positive feedback from our customers and clients, on a regular basis. At ComPsych, we are able to work with many other very caring professionals in our field and enjoy very stable, consistent work. This kind of stability can be difficult to find in the helping professions. ComPsych’s Clinical Director supports all departments with astounding aplomb to ensure that we are all successful. For decades, ComPsych maintained a reputation of stability without ever having a layoff, and leadership has even been able to weather the current major pandemic with minimal impact to our teams. Many employees join ComPsych at an entry-level position with potential for upward mobility and learn on-the-job skills that are highly transferable to other positions. Employees benefit from working alongside other professionals who share their decades of knowledge and experience, which contributes to everyone’s growth and advancement. We enjoy health care and benefit package, a great location near many forms of public transportation, great views, regular learning opportunities and engagement activities, and fun programs including raffles to events at the United Center. I was able to enjoy a Prince concert in box seats and attend my first ever Chicago Bulls game as a gift from ComPsych.

Cons

Our work is fast-paced and challenging; employees must be flexible and adaptable to change. Involvement of all team members is encouraged, especially during difficult times when we need all hands-on-deck, so employees should be willing to share ideas for innovation and continued success. Extra hours and duties can be required, and there are no holiday or annual bonuses; however, employees will improve their clinical skills, feel a part of a team, and gain satisfaction from helping others. Though self-care is encouraged by management, an employee should understand they are ultimately responsible for maintaining their own work-life balance. Like many jobs – opportunities are what you make of them. If you seek-out and make the most of challenges, you will grow here. If you have a negative outlook or require a lot of handholding, you may not fit in.

Pros

The mission is real here. ComPsych sits at the intersection of behavioral health and workforce wellbeing, and that purpose comes through in the daily work in a way that isn't just marketing language. If you care about the EAP space and the impact it has on employees around the world, this is a place where that matters. The people are a genuine standout. Across departments, you find colleagues who are sharp, collaborative, and invested in doing good work. Teams tend to be lean, which means individuals carry real responsibility and have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions. That can be energizing if you are someone who wants ownership over your work. The global scope of the business is a differentiator. For anyone interested in global operations, the breadth of markets and programs ComPsych operates across creates exposure that is hard to find elsewhere. There is real complexity to navigate and that complexity builds skills quickly.

Cons

Growth within the organization can feel inconsistent. There are opportunities, but they are not always visible or equitably communicated, and career pathing can vary significantly depending on your manager and team. Internal processes and cross-functional coordination can be slower than the pace of the business demands. As the company continues to grow globally, investment in infrastructure and process alignment would go a long way.
