Pros
While oil prices are high there is lots of opportunity for work. If you are trusted by an oil company and they want you on their wells, your life is good. If not, then you are at the mercy of area managers as to where and when you work.
Cons
The day oil started to slide, the oil company I had been working continuously for on behalf of Columbine for four years stopped drilling wells, and, after two months shy of eight years working for Columbine, I was "laid off" the day the final well ended. No attempt to negotiate a lower salary, no call from the company president who hired me eight years ago , nothing but a form letter from a company bureaucrat. The bottom line was I made too much money, so bye bye!
