Excellent, progressive Fire Department, with motivated Firefighters committed to training, serving the community, and staying up to date with the latest firefighting techniques.
Cons
The department is understaffed, underfunded (the aging fleet is particularly concerning), and is behind by at least 3 stations when contrasted with the size of the city. The current fire chief is actively working to address these issues.
Spent 29 years with CSFD before retiring. It was a great place to have a career. The pay was good, retirement income is good. This is an organization with many upstanding individuals who care about the community and people they serve. It is a very progressive department that is not afraid to try new ideas and new service delivery concepts. In other words they are trend setters.
Cons
Strong distrust and disdain by the citizens and media for any type of government employee. To the point of being cruel. At times this robs the joy of service.
