Pros

- Not micromanaged. Free to get on with the job - Some projects are managed well and involve engineers input to most of the pipeline (planning, client discussions, direction) - Ethics behind open source projects - Real engineering projects - Conference budget - Work from home (although some managers can be very funny with this)

Cons

- Inconsistent process - Lack of structure - Below average salary - Lack of work / poor projects you don't get much say in - Communication with senior management poor - No progression / training - No real sense of team

Pros

Plenty of opportunities, pay seems decent

Cons

Changing projects means feeling like continuous onboarding. Part of a consultancy.

Pros

- excellent people with some genuinely amazing engineers to learn from - pretty generous conference budget - exposure to a range of tech and industries - amazing office tea/coffee/snack

Cons

- a lack of long term ownership over projects inherent in working at a services company - pay is on the low side - lack of structured on boarding as a junior meant it was very sink or swim. This works for some and not for others - experience is somewhat luck of the draw based on projects. Some are amazing, others are… not. - I could never put my finger on the cause, but even by tech standards there’s a real lack of gender diversity in engineering
