Pros

There are some good people at Clubhouse, but they don't tend to last very long. It's remarkable how stable the product is given how terrible the engineering is. If you last long enough, they might fly you to San Francisco.

Cons

Clubhouse will regularly hire and fire engineers within their first 3 months, over and over again. At some point, you'd think they might stop and ask themselves if they are the problem, but there's no self-awareness at this company. They haven't successfully hired a back-end engineer in over a year. The entire company is being held up by 4 people who know how the archaic systems work. Because Clubhouse refuses to invest in or train any new employees, instead expecting them to completely understand these incoherent systems on day one, the company is going to fall apart as soon as the last of these 4 employees leaves. They will tell you that they're giving you time to make improvements, but this is a lie. Once you've received a bad review, it's game over, and they're just waiting for a convenient time to fire you. And you won't get much severance, either. Let me translate a few of the common sayings you'll hear at Clubhouse: "We do things a little differently here" = "We refuse to follow standards that every other company follows and we'll punish you for suggesting that anything should change" "We have a very high bar" = "We have impossible expectations, which is why we keep firing people" "We're a low-ego company" = "We're a passive-aggressive company" "We want employees who are passionate about the product" = "We expect people to shut up, do as their told, and work 12 hours a day without complaining" It's an extremely toxic work environment. Stay far away.
