Propaganda Professionals - Mate Clipper Ventures Employee Review

I worked for 3-4 years on and off at Clipper Ventures including as a Race Skipper for their round the world race. The experience of sailing around the world is a pro. The salary is tax free (UK resident) as you're abroad for over 9 months.

The managements approach to safety is not great. The company is all about the brand. Here's a summary: - I was asked to go to see without a VHF - I was told to sign to agree that important sailing related papers were aboard, they were not but I was still pressured to sign. - My race boat had a jobs list with 70+ items on the day before race start which Clipper didn't provide the parts During training I recommended one crew member should not do the race for safety reasons. I was told by the race management that this person was a 'bum on a seat' Strong blame culture, maintenance problems and hiding problems from paying customers

I came to join the company a few years after taking part in the race itself as Crew. It's a tight knit team of lovely people who ultimately make the humongous task of what we do achievable and actually as Crew before I joined too, memorable. It was the team that I wanted to join and what the race offers regular people like me, life changing! Unique, fast paced and fun!

There are few cons for us. On a race year it can be tough and is all encompassing with ALOT of travel. But lieu days are collected and carried over, and a very understanding bunch with life going on!
