Pros

-The people who work at CHAI are warm, kind-hearted, and impressive. They are committed to the vision and mission of the org. -Fairly decent benefits with flexibility (Global staff perspective) -CHAI is genuinely trying to adapt and change based on shifting priorities in global health. The new strategy is a great roadmap. -Recognition that investment in operations and finance is needed. -Incredible opportunities for growth for the right person (must be assertive and have decent quant skills)

Cons

Caveat - The siloed nature of how CHAI operates means this review is specific to one team, individuals on other teams may have a different experience. -While we work with urgency, there are unnecessary fire drills and this leads to people being burnt out. -Frugality is not equally applied. Some people are begging for basic software to do their job or a $150 computer monitor, while others are booking last minute exorbitant flights (with a significant portion due to poor planning). -Junior managers are not provided with the skills needed to be effective or supportive of their direct reports. -Constant funding cliffs are stressful. -Promotional opportunities are not consistent and usually depend on access to leadership. -Talent acquisition takes forever, which means we lose out on potential candidates. -Global HR does not promote itself as a resource to teams or individual staff (aside from a mention in an internal newsletter) -DEI Director hired a year ago but seems to be MIA -No true professional development and very little time to take advantage of it if it was available. -Internal job board policy leads to awkward conversations among staff that would like to explore an internal role, but supervisor doesn't want them to move on. -Lots of staff in country offices can't access CHAI corporate cards due to "VISA rules" creating an awkward dynamic with global staff who do. Staff are expected to pay their expenses up front and get reimbursed and some staff have to absorb the cost of international currency exchange fees for that reimbursement. -Navigating parental leave is difficult if your jurisdiction has different rules than CHAI policies.
