Pros

ClickUp is taking on a heady goal in a very saturated market. It goes against a lot you learn in business school about strategy or even from working at other startups, but I actually believe our team can accomplish what we are setting out to accomplish. One of the biggest influences on that success is the amount the company EXPECTS and PUSHES you to grow while you work here as well as how supportive they are. They take their culture seriously and work very hard to maintain it. I personally love our culture and I love the feeling of responsibility and ownership I get on my team. I'm also really fond of how laid back things are while also being results oriented. It's pretty unique. I was working while visiting family and they thought our all hands sounded "too fun". The people here are amazing. The company has grown a lot, and it's a decent size but still feels very approachable and manageable. No matter who I reach out to everyone is helpful, friendly, enthusiastic and to top it off really smart and talented. The product and the projects I'm working on are ones I'm proud to put my name behind. I recently had to prep an internal presentation and because we use ClickUp I was able to track down all kinds of info and insight, and it actually made me realize just how useful it is to use ClickUp as a growing organization.

Cons

We actually use ClickUp for everything, because who better to test out new features and figure out our pain points than a fast growing tech startup. There are definitely instances where I wish I didn't have to use ClickUp for certain things. With a unicorn valuation I was expecting things to be a bit more polished than they are, but once you join the team you'll realize we are building this rocket-ship mid-flight. Also when you 10x your team in 12 months obviously a lot changes. Expect big projects, expectations, and change.

Pros

Some smart, ambitious people who you can learn a lot from.

Cons

This place is an unstable, toxic mess, and leadership is largely to blame. The C-suite is full of egos and seems to make goals and quotas up out of thin air, then cleans up the fallout from poor planning and overhiring with layoffs. There have been three company-wide mass layoffs in less than four years, and that doesn’t even include the many layoffs that have happened quietly behind closed doors. The toxicity at the top trickles down through the entire organization. VPs put pressure on middle management, who then pass that pressure on to ICs. The company can’t seem to keep leaders in place for more than six months, which creates constant chaos and confusion. Strategies are always changing, priorities shift every few months, and nothing ever sticks long enough to make a real impact. Promotions seem to be based more on politics, favoritism, and who can make the most noise than on actual performance. The same people get promoted year after year, and many of them seem underqualified for the titles they hold. If you’re good at self-promotion and have the right relationships, you’ll probably do fine. If you’re quietly doing great work, don’t expect the same recognition. HR keeps saying they’re working on improving the promotion process, but I haven’t seen much change. If you’re considering joining the GTM org (especially the operational side) I would think twice. The new leadership loves to talk about transformation, improvements, and exciting changes, but there’s usually very little follow through behind the messaging.
