Pros

Flexibly hybrid schedule Dogs in office Free food on Fridays

Cons

For the love of god do not work here. The culture upfront seems to be strong and human first centered but in reality this is the most toxic, disfunctional and political place I have ever worked. Leadership pretends to care but will throw you under the bus immediately. They micromanage everything. They pretend like your opinion matters but then will use your opinion against you and twist your words. If you talk to anyone who works there they will say they are miserable and are looking for a way out.

Pros

-The projects here go beyond the usual—they’re designed to create real, lasting change in public health, sustainability, and communities. That kind of work is hard to find. -Everyone’s input is valued, and brainstorming feels like a real team effort. You leave conversations feeling energized and aligned. -The hybrid setup gives you the best of both worlds: a beautiful office to connect in person and the freedom to work remotely when it fits your life. The option to work anywhere in the world for a month each year is a standout perk. -Whether it’s stepping into new challenges or building your skills, leadership is invested in helping you succeed. -There’s a sense of trust and mutual respect at Civilian that creates a strong foundation. -Civilian isn’t a place for coasting—but if you’re looking for meaningful work, a supportive team, and the chance to grow, it’s a place worth considering. The challenges are real, but so are the rewards.

Cons

-Rapid organizational growth sometimes outpaces process development, causing temporary inefficiencies.

Pros

- Great teamwork with quality people. - Makes effort to buoy often overworked staff with extracurricular activities and perks (themed parties, free food and snacks, WFH schedule).

Cons

- A non-diverse upper management team is well-meaning in its efforts to improve the foundation of company culture, but lasting change is empty and lacks authenticity. - Raises are not tied to reviews. This was sold as a plus to staff (meaning it could happen at any time), but raises did not come at all. Instead of inspiring workers to always strive for improvement, it felt like manipulation. - An ambitious, but ultimately misguided push for company growth (higher value contracts) and simultaneous shedding of smaller clients led to a dramatic crash in revenue, triggering layoffs when those high-value contracts didn't come through. A slightly more conservative plan would have saved jobs.
