Pros

Happy hour with beer/downtown location

Cons

"Has the company had a layoff of any kind due to underperforming business in several years? Emphatically no." Is that true? As a former employee in Cirrus, I witnessed frequently re-org in a relatively short period of time(<2yrs). The most impressive one happened in Nov 2012, when Cirrus Logic shut down its Tucson office( Apex Department) and laid off most of the employees there. No one got any form of notice in advance. The office building was evacuated in 3 hrs. Based on the information I have, most of them had to leave Tucson to land a new job, including a fresh Validation Engineer who just graduated from college and started his career in Cirrus 1 week ago. Some were told that they may have chance to interview for opportunities in Austin site and relocate if they got the offer, however, only a few(<5) lucky people got the chance. I don't know how you guys define "layoff of any kind due to underperforming business", or you can state that that large scale layoff was just a proactive re-org rather than a "layoff of any kind due to underperforming business". But don't forget there are job seekers who care about the stability of their further career, and they just want to know how the company treat the employees. Nobody can imagine such kind of misleading statement can be made by a responsible company that really cares about its employees/future employees.

The Apex business this former employee references did not result in a layoff. Apex' core business in high-power products (eg. hybrids) was different from the "core" mixed-signal IC business of Cirrus Logic, so the decision was made in 2012 to sell that product line to private investors. That company is currently Apex Microtechnology, based in Tucson. It was not an underperforming product line during its time at Cirrus Logic. Most employees transferred to Apex Microtechnology as a result of the sale, while several engineers in Tucson accepted offers to remain at Cirrus Logic in Austin. Cirrus Logic stands by its statement. We cannot discuss personnel information in a public forum, but if you would like to discuss this matter further or have questions about the sale of the Apex product line in 2012 please email bill.schnell@cirrus.com. We believe information should be presented factually accurate.

Pros

The company has strong technical products and many talented engineers. There are opportunities to work on meaningful engineering and verification challenges, and I had positive technical collaborations with several strong engineers.

Cons

Employee experience can vary significantly depending on local management. In my experience, feedback and escalation did not always feel transparent or actionable. I would encourage future employees to pay close attention to how expectations, performance concerns, and speak-up issues are handled in practice. Company culture should not be judged only by perks, free food, snacks, or friendly messaging. Core values like ethics, integrity, and speaking up are truly tested during difficult situations — when there is conflict, disagreement, or concerns raised about management behavior. That is when employees see whether values are truly lived or mostly written on paper. I would also be thoughtful about employee surveys. Even when surveys are described as anonymous, discussing results openly at a small-group or team level can make employees question whether their feedback is truly protected. If people feel comments can be traced back to a small group, they may stop being honest.
