Pros

Really liked a lot of the people who worked there, many are gone now. My manager was amazing and the people who were behind the scenes worked their butts off.

Cons

I loved my co-workers, but as with most jobs in journalism and content creation the hours were long and the pay was low. Can be a high stress environment, there are way too many executives with high level ideas and only the bare minimum of people actually doing the work.

Pros

They post fake jobs to get free work.

Cons

They are just phishing for free articles through non-paid "test examples" they give applicants that they send to their clients for publishing.

Pros

This is the largest newspaper and media company in Nova Scotia, so that' s a huge pro. Great for getting some experience in journalism. Also, the office is small enough to foster a friendly and pleasant environment among the employees.

Cons

This company is currently recovering from a labour dispute that lasted more than one-and-a-half- years, and I don't know if it will ever truly recover. The relationship between management and staff could very well be beyond repair. Also, the quality of the paper dipped due to the strike, but even at it's best it could never hold a candle to any of Canada's other major regional newspapers. Simply put, this newspaper lacks the resources to adapt effectively to the harsh realities of the print news industry in 2017.
