Pros

Typical start-up in the sense that you can get a lot of experience if placed in the right role on the right team. There are some fantastic, genuine, and kind people here with whom I really enjoyed working.

Cons

CEO and CTO in particular have minimal to no business savvy and have created internal politics that allows local city teams to operate with complete autonomy, leading to irresponsible spending. Favoritism and internal politics win over sound strategy and logic. Frustrations with an ability to accomplish effective work have led to significant departures, including the COO, head of recruiting, and head of business development in the same week. Additionally, there is minimal to no genuine appreciation for hourly workers (customer support team, operations specialists, etc.) that comprise ~70% of Chowbus's headcount. Due to the outdated technology and software the app uses, all of the "Backend" work is incredibly manual to update, making incremental progress towards KPIs and operational efficiency nearly impossible. Strategic decisions at the top continue to be flawed and the company is on a severe decline as COVID restrictions are lifted. Additionally, several rounds of layoffs were made with ZERO advance notice to employees, which significantly damaged morale and led to further turnover among newly disengaged employees. There are SO many more legitimate and promising startups out there. Invest in yourself and your career (and avoid Chowbus).

Pros

Overall, this is a company with a clear development direction and relatively well-established systems. It has a certain level of competitiveness in its industry, and its products and services continue to improve over time, reflecting management’s focus on long-term growth. The working atmosphere is generally positive, with colleagues being supportive and cooperative, which helps facilitate day-to-day work and problem-solving.

Cons

That said, there is still room for improvement in some internal processes and communication mechanisms. Certain decisions are not always communicated in a timely manner, and cross-department collaboration can occasionally suffer from information gaps, which may affect efficiency. In addition, the work pace can be quite fast during peak periods, placing higher demands on employees’ time management and stress-handling abilities, especially for new hires.
