Pros

- Most of the people in Boston are friendly and fun to work with - Small environment: it feels like a startup with the resources of a larger company - Great location: close to South Station in an up and coming area of Seaport/South Boston

Cons

- highly micromanaging environment - no equity; some higher level engineers receive equity - culture tends to be very fear based and immature: they are not open with information, I have never once heard from the CEO. In Boston they are especially trying to force the culture with HR from HQ in town regularly. Culture emphasizes hours in the office/face time over actual performance. There have been comments and a general attitude that employees in Boston don't work that much (which is not accurate). - Can sometimes feel tense between Boston and HQ - (Somewhat) recently acquired by a non tech company - no dogs in the office (even though we're a company in the pet industry. and I believe it lists that as perks on the website) - highly inexperienced leaders. Many leaders grew into management jobs by simply sticking with the company during expansion. - It seems very difficult to grow the Boston office with engineers which is concerning. A fraction of the office space is being used. - Odd romantic relationships between employees and superiors Overall, if you are experienced enough to work for a tech company in Boston, you have many other better choices. Particularly engineers.

Pros

I am an artist and I get to do an art-related job. The schedule is flexible when things pop up. I get health insurance and 401k and a lot of free food, and there is free gym access in the office building. The people I work with are all generally very cool, friendly, and/or fun to work with.

Cons

The pay rate is below the industry standard for production artists. I am not able to afford a place of my own. I live with my parents and I work another job to supplement my income. I am basically surviving and able to pay all my bills, but I would not be able to live a full life on my own with the pay rate as it is now. The work culture portrays itself as progressive and inclusive place but it is the typical corporate toxic environment.
