Pros

Good colleagues, modern .Net core & micro service architecture, free lunch

Cons

The churn is real. Lots of experienced engineers leaving or have recently left. Progression is slow and cumbersome with a 4 month long review process which is calibrated across the company to produce a bell curve - In other words enforced mediocrity. Technical Decision making is chaotic. RTO of 3 days per week rigidly enforced and the mass exoduses are partially the result.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback after your 4 years with us. We value the contributions of all our employees, and it’s clear from your feedback that you care about the future of Checkout.com. We take your concerns seriously, particularly regarding attrition, the review process, and technical decision-making. We understand that employee retention is critical to our success, and we are actively working to address turnover, particularly among experienced engineers. Additionally, we acknowledge your feedback on the progression framework and review process. Ensuring that our team members feel supported and recognised for their contributions is a priority, and we are constantly evaluating how to improve this experience. One of the ways we’ve enhanced recognition across the company is through our Hero Awards, quarterly celebrations that honour team members who’ve gone the extra mile. This initiative allows us to celebrate the difference our colleagues make, and we’re excited to expand this recognition programme even further. It’s part of our broader commitment to ensuring that recognition is embedded into our company ethos, and we hope initiatives like these contribute positively to the employee experience. Your comments about our return-to-office policy and its impact on employees have also been noted. While we believe in the value of in-person collaboration, we recognise the importance of flexibility and are continuously reviewing our approach to find the right balance for our teams. We sincerely appreciate your feedback, and we are committed to addressing the areas you've highlighted. Thank you for your time and contributions at Checkout.com, and we wish you continued success in your future endeavours.

Pros

Good salary, thats about it

Cons

Toxic work culture, they want you to work from 6 am to 9pm. If you do not speak french or are not french you will feel like an outsider. Favoritism is big here, manager have their favorites and will feed them inbounds. Very hard to get approval to go to conferences, and there is no ROI, longer reps hold on to bigger name merchants for years even though they are not having any impact, and no one does anything about it.
