Pros

The lads you work with are great, and the only reason I even stayed as long as I did.

Cons

Don't be fooled by the promise of a “family culture” and training. The family culture exists – for the family that own the business, everyone else is expendable and is treated as such, particularly if you work on the support desk. Training is a joke, they click through menus and read the description the system provider puts on the page. You may be given a couple of phones or a system to play around with for an hour or so, then you are sent to manage a massively overdue workload with absolutely no support from “management”. There is no option of progression or pay increases, no perks to working at the company, they even took away the gym to turn in to one of the “managers” personal shed – one which he spends more time in during his supposed work hours than at his actual desk. I suppose that's what happens when you pass your entire workload to another member of staff. You will be treated like you are stupid, talked down to, belittled and given no support at all if you work on the support desk. Prepare to have everything blamed on you, even if it has nothing to do with you. You can try to talk to the management outside of the support team – and they do listen – but nothing changes. The company was well run while Geoff was in charge, but unfortunately in his absence it has slipped in to an absolute joke of a business. The sales side seems to be fine, interestingly people seem to want to come back to work on sales, but not a single person has ever returned to work on support and it's very clear why. Until the management of the support team is fixed, avoid at all costs if you value your time, energy and mental health.

Pros

Environment was warm, friendly and positive. I felt really well supported and they gave me a lot of training opportunities. I was thee during a massive period of growth, and while it was a bit stressful, the team felt like a family and in it together. My team (technical support) was well run. I'm a big fan of Check. Always looked after me and my family when we went through a tough time with my kids. I wanted to move into something different, or i'd still be there.

Cons

My starting wage wasn't as good as it could have been and it took a while to increase. That said, just as i was leaving they put a different structure in place, so wages were automatically altered in line with a bunch of different elements, like KPIs, performance and training targets. A much better way to do it that stops you wondering when the next pay rise was coming. Only other thing was parking at head office. With the quick growth, we had to park in the nearby supermarket sometimes, but it was only 1 min walk away.

Pros

Check actually care about their people. My boss (Sales Director, Rob Wellings) always found the time to support me in what is sometimes a challenging role (field sales) and i think this ethos flows through the business. The sales commission structure is really good, similar to what i’ve seen in London - if you are good you can do really well and they don’t seem to begrudge paying it (unlike a few companies i’ve worked for). Staff get private healthcare (after a minimum term of around 6 months i think but i can’t remember exactly) and use of the work gym (should have done this more but was a member of one outside so it didn’t really bother with it). Overall great company to work for - If I still lived in the North West i would never have left.

Cons

Basic wage could have been higher, but the commission structure is really achievable it definitely worked out better for me. No office in London. Check isn't a massive company, which i really liked for the personal approach, but some might prefer a bigger 'corporate' feel.
