Pros

There are a lot of good people inside of Champlain, and the union status of the Vermont location makes for pretty fair and livable salaries for the production folks.

Cons

What I saw in the management trying to solve problems was very dysfunctional. The response to any problem is just push and pressure, lots of finger pointing and blame, no positive interaction. There is not good communication or collaboration at all. It's got that stereotype old school businessman type of atmosphere where people try to power up against each other when a problem arises rather than actually work on it together. Pretty dysfunctional if you are involved in any more professional role, but I would think it could be a decent job if you are working production.

Pros

Good peers to work with considering the culture.

Cons

Poor management culture. They post a "weekly change list", Basically everyone in the company gets to see how many people leave weekly. I saw how they hired a salesperson and Product Development in 2024, tap their knowledge and let them go within 3 months of their start date. It was done in a very cold and callous way. The training is almost non-existent before you are thrown to the wolves, because they are constantly late with product and find ways to stiff the customers on delivery charges. You are constantly fighting with angry customers. Customers refer to Champlain as, ChamPAIN. They have a guy out West that has gone thru like 6 salespeople since 2020, instead of addressing his poor people skills, they continue to allow him to manage people, AKA, the revolving door.
