Pros

- In store team are great - Great opportunity to network with like-minded people - Customers are mostly nice - Good way to get your foot in the door for a tech career

Cons

- Cost cutting to the extreme, to the detriment of sales staff and customers, especially with their pre-built PCs - Huge disconnect between stores and head office, non-existent support network - Pits customers against sales staff - Highly unprofessional technical staff, using toilet paper to clean thermal paste off customers CPUs, for which they are massively overcharged - Constant changes of procedure for no discernable reason - Minimal training for sales staff and store management, depend on senior sales staff for training - no remuneration for this - Revolving door of management - The stores are used as warehouses, packed full of items that are sent back and forth daily, sales staff are expected to handle this. There are more items than places to put them in some stores. - Poor sanitary conditions, no outsourcing of cleaning, cockroaches and vermin a common sight, once again sales staff are made responsible - Management is not mental health literate in the slightest, would sooner let you go than ask you if you are doing okay. Particularly frustrating when the mismanagement directly negatively affects team members' mental health - Workplace bullying from upper management is common, internalized racism and sexism towards customers and staff - Cut throat with even the most loyal, long serving staff members - Mismanagement of pay and super for staff - Consistent breaches of ACCC, will normally buckle on store policies only when threatened with this. Sales staff bear the brunt of this in person, while management take no initiative in making it easier for them - Sales staff are expected to stay back well after clocking off to fix issues, without pay - A toxic regional manager who inappropriately puts his hands on staff members without invitation and could not care less about anyone beneath him, regularly threatens staff with firing - Pay disputes are drawn out as certain parts of management hand-wave concerns and do not listen - Communication from head office is often riddled with basic spelling errors, also extends to the online store in which misinformation is rampant Sales staff are constantly given unrealistically high sales targets, with commission not being achievable for most staff as they are pulled away to tend to the tasks listed above. If one does make commission, they'd be lucky to see it in the next 6-8 months. This company is a single investigation away from being in deep trouble.

Pros

Coworkers are good, they made the shifts bearable.

Cons

Horrible head office and upper management. They make changes which have negative impacts then blame the staff because they are arrogant and think they know everything. Keen on commission? Forget about it because they will increase your target at the end of the month and say too bad, should've sold more. Staff turnover high because you quickly realise how bad working there is.

Pros

in store team are amazing to work with and never had issues with co workers, great to work in a place that is surrounded by tech

Cons

upper management will change your sale targets or come up with excuses so they don't have to pay the workers the commission they earned for going above their monthly targets. a lot of workers recently were told they were not going to get paid commission for march 2025 ONLY a couple of weeks ago due to the commission changes that were not forwarded to any of the staff across multiple stores. this change was applied on march due to the fact that march was an extremely good month for workers and almost everyone went well above targets and were supposed to make over $700-$1000 per person but then they made changes that affected around 90% of staff so no one made commission despite evidence that we all made above our targets. upper management treats a lot of people awfully and even witnessed a very high up manager swearing at other workers on the floor despite customers being on the floor as well. I really enjoy working in a tech store but unfortunately due to unfair treatment and constant politics affecting staff due to the greed of upper management its getting harder and harder to justify wanting to spend my years working in this company when upper management do not care about the well being of the people who work in this store. this place really was great to work at in last couple of years and met many great people but as centrecom grows as a company, they learn new ways of earning more profit which usually involves understaffing to spend less money and increasing work load despite the stores becoming busy due to more popularity which gets to the point where customers are getting angry at workers because there is not enough staff. really hope centrecom starts to learn that workers matter as well and they start to treat everyone better instead of really shady practices. wish i could say more that i've learnt over the time i have been here but this review already too long but as of right now i definitely do not recommend anyone work here until they fix how they treat workers TL;DR - Regional management and above are greedy and don't care about staff - Shady practices to the point where some of us are tempted to contact fairwork to fight back - Opinions and disagreements can get you fired - No transparency to staff and in store managers don't get notified either sometimes - Short Staffed - You'll get fired without getting a second chance in some cases - Unprofessional regional managers and upper managers - Commission targets will get changed or excuses will be made if too many people reach target on high profit months to prevent paying a significant amount to workers who reached target ( confirmed by 2 separate managers and happened on multiple occasions ) - very high up managers will speak negatively about workers in front of them due to not speaking their language and knowing they wont understand what they're saying ( also confirmed by multiple people who were present and on multiple occasions ) - no training and no over time pay on weekends when people are forced to stay back due to customers still being present in store - great in store staff - will learn a lot from co workers - good way to learn more about tech This review is in relation to upper management that are above store managers
