Pros
They do important work in serving the community. Programs offered to consumers are excellent.
Cons
Mostly require MSW for promotions and positions, other social service-orientated degrees are not recognized (ie, education, psychology, sociology, public administration). Credentialing is awkward and previous experience in the field not recognized. Masters degree with little experience outweighed many years of experience and a bachelors and graduate studies in process. As a graduate student, little was done in assisting with my education despite policies in the handbook. No tuition assistance if degree is not MSW.
