Pros

My co-workers were great and very hardworking.

Cons

The executive director is a complete nightmare, which is reflected in the constant turnover at this organization. Almost everyone quits within a few months. It's the most inefficient and ineffective organization I've ever worked with. Nothing gets done because the ED has extreme control issues and demands to review everything before anything can be filed or submitted. However he's also completely disorganized so never actually reviews your work. It's a constant cycle of having him assign multiple, contradictory assignments, then he yells at you to work faster, and then when you send him your work it dies in his inbox, never to be opened or seen. It's incredibly frustrating. On top of that he is extremely condescending and treats the entire staff like his personal assistants. He has no boundaries and will text you at all hours of the night, on weekends, and on your sick days although it is never an emergency. It's really a shame because the rest of the staff are great and so much could be accomplished if the ED wasn't constantly working against himself and the organization.

This post is almost certainly created by a former employee who was terminated and then stole our Facebook page and turned it into a rant against the program and repeatedly made false statements on social media platforms against the program and its Board and leadership using the same language in this post targeting the Executive Director who fired him. The program is well-organized, staff works cooperatively as a team, staff play a significant role in formulating and executing advocacy campaigns and litigation, salaries are completely consistent with those for similar workin other non-profit organizations, and staff are provided appropriate instructions on how to get duties accomplished while employees have a large amount of independence in performing their duties. Most staff members who have left did so to attend law school or to move to another non-profit to expand their knowledge and experience by learning a different area of the law. Most staff members who have left stay in touch with the program and supportive of its work.

Pros

you will learn a lot, minimal supervision, casual dress code

Cons

zero training or guidance; you are thrown in to sink or swim but what is at stake are client's immigration cases so there's no room for trial and error. minimal pay all the while you will be made to wear multiple hats and complete constant tasks outside of your job description. zero appreciation or respect of any boundaries from executive director, he treated all us legal assistants as personal assistants and demanded things be done without providing enough information. he what make us feel small, would take calls and ignore us while demanding we stay seated in front of him waiting for his attention, and would be extremely rude to me and insensitive to clients during interviews.
