Pros

Most of the people in this office are wonderful, dedicated, and progressive The pay is also great for a public defender office.

Cons

Despite the overall progressive minded staff, the rigid top down structure of the organization renders the culture of the office toxic, particularly for people of color. A white victimhood complex predominates upper management, ensuring that attempts to meaningfully address bias are met with, at best, cold indifference, and at worst, outright hostility. Staff of color are also subjected to microaggressions, and are treated like sentient potential lawsuits instead of human beings. As a result, the retention rate of attorneys of color is abysmal.

Cons

- hard work, high caseloads - can be very demanding - client situations are often desperate and there is not always a lot you can do

Pros

- ok benefits, great union support, good work/life balance - client advocate role fosters a positive learning experience

Cons

- Absolutely no support from management. The client advocates are responsible for high stake client concerns without much guidance, training or support. - Management fails to address tangible issues brought my client advocates , leaving them to handle interpersonal conflict and emotionally heavy work without supportive intervention. - No growth opportunity in a lot of the projects' client advocate position (barring few).
