Pros

Note that the reviews currently on Glassdoor don't reflect the current culture. We have a new president who's spent the last 3 years completely transforming the org, and there's almost nobody left at the organization who worked under the previous leadership. Pros: 1) The benefits are incredible — from half-day Fridays, to excellent health insurance coverage, to unlimited PTO that people actually take... You're just not going to find better benefits at a reproductive health advocacy nonprofit. I have better benefits than many people I know with corporate jobs. 2) Senior leaders listen to employee feedback and adjust accordingly. They care a lot about meeting staff members' needs. 3) It's a queer-led organization with a very queer staff. 4) There's a lot of flexibility for employees to try new things and learn skills. 5) The work is BEYOND essential, and I feel like what I do has a direct impact on people.

Cons

1) The field of nonprofit reproductive rights advocacy is a hot mess due to current events. It's stressful, emotionally taxing work across the field. At CFC we talk a lot about how to avoid having a culture of burnout. 2) As a small organization of around 15, we're all in close proximity in terms of the work we're doing. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this as a workplace if you're the type of person who doesn't want to get to know their coworkers.

Pros

I am extremely impressed by present day Catholics for Choice. Transitioning from private sector to nonprofit, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. Luckily, CFC has a working environment that outshines most employers in many areas: - The benefits are fantastic — half-day Fridays, $0 premiums, an unlimited PTO policy (with a required minimum of five weeks off), and much more. - The pay is excellent, and great performance is rewarded in salary and title. - Work-life balance is easily one of my favorite things here. You can choose your hours, which days you work from home, and you won't receive work communication after 5pm or on weekends. - The staff members are amazing. Everyone works hard, and is truly dedicated to our mission. Coworkers are all very friendly and fun to be around, without judgement of any sort. Senior leaders are extremely receptive and are appreciative and supportive supervisors. I can now go to work with all of my energy, and support a cause that truly matters. You do not need to be Catholic to work here — you just need to be 100% supportive of reproductive rights, and great at what you do. Our work is very fulfilling!

Cons

- If you expect others to work on nights and weekends or want to receive praise for working late — this probably isn't your ideal environment. We abide by our agreed upon work hours. - If you prefer a strictly independent role, it might not be a great fit. We have a ton of cross-team collaboration and departments work together quite often.

Pros

Unique and important organization with a long history and lots of potential. Clear communications manual and talking points to help staff maintain consistency, especially on some of the tougher issues.

Cons

Below market salaries, lack of clear strategic vision, and intensely controlling executive management creates a toxic work environment. Highly inflexible leave and flex time policies are especially hard on employees with health concerns and/or families. Staff turns over almost annually as a result. I felt very insecure about my performance nearly every day since the standards seemed to constantly be changing and colleagues were let go due to personality clashes, not performance.
