Pros

Working with troubled children can be very rewarding when interventions are effective. The employees have a good sense of humor. The work is never boring. The activities staff are required to participate in with the children are diverse, fun, and interesting.

Cons

The hours are long and overtime follows a nonstandard structure--only work over 40 hours a week is considered overtime, and 12 or 16 hour days are compensated without overtime. Breaks are rare. The youth/clients can be aggressive and very disrespectful. Communication between shifts can be inconsistent.
