Pros

Some BCBA's are great, and the training prepares you to take the RBT exam.

Cons

This job is the most stressful, terrifying, and overwhelming position I've ever had. The company will throw you into any open case regardless of intensity as soon as you're out of training and refuse to let you take on a lighter caseload. The training is textbook, but the job is real life. The training will not prepare you in any way for the job, except to prepare you to take the RBT exam. Additionally, the company spouts that you can ask for help and support at any time, however, my fellow trainees and I never even met some of our supervisors, and those supervisors refused to allow us to work with in-field trainers. On top of this, the pay is minimal with the amount and intensity of work expected, and though they guarantee a $2/hour raise after passing the exam, you won't receive this for at least a month after. I got hired immediately at the end of my interview, and have since found, after speaking to other employees, that they do this to everyone. If you have any experience, they will hire you immediately, "train" you, and then throw you headfirst into the field. I believe that they anticipate that 1/3rd or more of each training group to quit within a few months after hire, and just cut these as losses. That is why they hire so many BT's and Instructional Aides at once and are always hiring. You also must sign an agreement upon hire that you won't work in the field with any other company for a year after quitting or termination. Please do not put yourself through this stress unless you are truly prepared!!

Pros

Very rewarding, kids are mostly fantastic and the improvement/interactions you see with these kids makes it worth while! These kids warm your heart and being an advocate for them and changing their lives will make anyone love this job. You also almost always have support in your classrooms which is VERY helpful.

Cons

Training makes this job seem easy breezy. I promise you it’s not. Even with tons of experience you are never fully prepared for this job. It is a fantastic and rewarding job and it fills your heart with love and the kids are mostly great and you grow to love them. However you are dealing with lower functioning kids with pretty severe behaviors most of the time which include hurting themselves and/or YOU! It can also be super overwhelming at times. Joining the school I could of only assumed what it would be like but they make it seem a lot easier and chill than it actually is (it’s not). The turn over rate is pretty bad, most people don’t stay there longer than a year if that and we are constantly understaffed. The pay should be a lot better for the amount of work you do but it is what it is. I’m not trying to scare you BUT I’m trying to be honest with what this job actually entails because no one else will.
