Toxic, terrible workplace - Editor CapeTownMagazine.com Employee Review

Pros

There were no pros at all to working here. The team was great, but traumatised and miserable.

Cons

Micromanagement, toxic and at times abusive management, no structure, no concern for employee capacity, no benefits or growth opportunities, no healthy workplace boundaries. The CEO gets too involved in every single task, creating massive bottlenecks and backlogs. Every day staff is dealing with (rightfully) furious clients who have not received what they paid for, due to lack of organisation and messy workflow. There are no performance reviews, no salary increases, no KPIs or metrics to measure success. And yet, there is constant criticism of staff and their work. The website/CMS are ancient and don't work very well. The company never has any capital to actually fix anything, and staff is not equipped with the resources they need to do their jobs. My honest advice is to stay far away from this company. It will be the worst work experience of your life.
