Pros

I worked at the company for over 10 years and it was a wonderful place. The old CEO treated everyone with respect and the company treated the employees well. Things like flexible work hours, work-life balance, generous benefits and even a holiday bonus of $50 to $500 depending on tenure were a part of the culture. New management took over in 2013 and has made some dramatic changes. The core employees in Middleton, WI are great people, but fewer and fewer. The new strategy has enabled the company to add a lot of new products, but it's also cost a lot of market share in the older products that made the company successful. The agency force has been very supportive, but many appear to have run out of patience and give us less and less new business. Business continues to grow, but at a much slower pace then projected.

Cons

New management took over in 2013 and has made some dramatic changes. All of the senior executives who were there in 2013 are gone and the company's product lines, systems and compensation/benefit plans have changed considerably. A number of people in Wisconisn have lost their jobs and all new positions are being created/filled on the East Coast where the new leaders reside. The new CEO has a track record of building up and then selling companies making himself a lot of money and leaving others to clean up the mess, so a number of people are concerned about their future job status. Weekend emails and weekend/late hour work on a regular basis are much more common and the new executives put much more emphasis on work and less on life balance. The new strategy seems to change frequently with many starts, stops and do overs, which makes it very hard on the staff and building any positive momentum. New systems have been slow to build and costly with repeated changes in the CIO (on our 4th since 2013) and IT staff.

Pros

Flexibility. Entrepreneurial. Supports desire to attend regional and national functions. Pay has become more aligned with the industry. Mentor/Mentee opportunities for those that seek it. Hybrid and remote work options.

Cons

Very limited growth opportunities. Open PTO comes with a cost, often working during scheduled time off. Communication and collaboration is lacking. Little recognition for exceptional work.
