Pros

Friendly colleagues Good exposure to tech industry. Great exposure to senior level execs Great diversity and inclusion. Good for fresh grads/good starting point. But don’t expect much.

Cons

I’ve seen other reviews here which I 100% agree with (low salaries, very poor benefits especially on the insurance part) so I won’t expound on them. For me, the biggest disappointment is the middle management - the VPs and the middle managers. -They are long-term Canalys employees (their first and only job is Canalys), which is their biggest weakness as they have a narrow view of work/compensation/pay and they think whatever the company decides is the best. Some of them lack empathy. I remember having an honest conversation with my manager on my financial struggles and why a significant pay hike matters to me/my family etc while citing my merits and why I deserve a promotion. The response I got? “Everyone is going through something. You shouldn’t think that’s a valid reason”. From then - I knew i needed to leave. Middle managers have no idea how to handle these situations. -They use emotions and not data when making decisions. Ironic considering they are a market intelligence firm. It’s also very obvious that the reviews on March 6, 2022 November 21, 2021 are from the management - they’re trying to increase the rating on Glassdoor. i can tell you - “ability to do anything you want” and “experiment with your role” is not true at all. It is manager dependent and most of them don’t do that. Basically if you win bring in dollars/business, that’s what matters. But learning and experimenting? Unheard of. At most only one or two people can do it, but will ultimately be pressured to win business. I’ve asked 3 ex employees in Sales, Events, and Analyst team (all high performers)- they all said they would never come back.

Pros

Established global brand. Small hybrid offices. Peer-to-peer training and onboarding. Do your time, make your connections, move on.

Cons

Around the clock working hours. Lack of compensation. Leadership is mediocre management. Your peers are your lifeline so stick to them - learn from them how to best handle poor managers. Don't drink the kool-aide for too long. Do your time, make connections, jump ship. The skills you learn from your peers will land you in far more healthy environments in tech (with a much better culture), promise.
