Cons

Our family had a deeply upsetting experience with Camp Taconic this summer. My wife accepted a nursing contract with the camp, hoping for a rewarding opportunity that would also allow our daughter to attend. Unfortunately, what we encountered was far from professional or supportive. The working conditions were extremely unreasonable — well beyond what was discussed before she accepted the position. The expectations were excessive, and the support that was promised simply did not exist. Most disturbing of all, the camp’s owner used our daughter’s attendance as a guilt trip, creating pressure for my wife to remain silent rather than advocate for herself. No parent should be made to feel that their child’s summer experience is being held hostage to prevent them from speaking up about mistreatment. We had hoped this would be a positive, family-centered experience. Instead, it left us feeling manipulated, disrespected, and deeply disappointed. I would strongly caution any healthcare professional — or any staff member — considering employment at Camp Taconic to get everything in writing and proceed with great caution.
