Pros

You meet a wide range of interesting people from toddlers to grandparents. If you just want to meet new people and have a chat and don't really care about the very low pay then Cambly would be a good fit.

Cons

Pay is terribly low. Bonuses are pathetically useless. Too many no shows, which is waste of your time. Students often experience tech issues directly related to the Cambly platform. Teachers cannot enter the class unless the student calls you and the call comes up on your dashboard. Many times students send messages asking where the teacher is when the class has started. This is because the platform will be showing them that it is waiting for the teacher to enter (this is impossible without receiving a call from student). This entire thing wastes so much time. Many times the call does not come through to your dashboard and you assume the student is not coming when in fact they are waiting in the waiting room thinking you are not coming, but neither of you are aware of the situation. Students often call late so you do not get paid for the time they hadn't yet called, unless they call after 10 minutes then you get a very measly $2 for 10 minutes of your time that has been wasted. There are always problems with the platform/website and they blame it on your internet when there's absolutely nothing with your internet because it works on every other website except Cambly. The platform slows down your laptop. Overall, it comes across that management does not care at all about their teachers. They are simply disposable which is why they over hire which reduces the amount of classes you can teach.

Pros

Very flexible schedule (you create your own), can easily cancel classes without too much of a penalty (make every student that you like a "regular" student so that if you get penalized...only regulars can book you...you have a huge pool of regulars), Cambly provides lessons, you can use almost any website as long as you don't need to share login information, it's fun and easy, many students become like friends, you can learn about different countries, cultures, and languages

Cons

The pay. It has never increased in the 14 years that Cambly has been in business. They are starting to offer a new program called "Cambly Pro" where you can make $15 an hour, but you have to apply to be a tutor for it and you could be denied. You have to have a 99% rating for 3 months to even be considered. If, like me, you are open to all students (and not just your regular students that you have become friends with), your rating can vary widely. No matter how good of a tutor you are, you will not be everyone's cup of tea. Also, Cambly does not allow tutors to teach in some states in the U.S. due to labor laws.
