MANY LIES from customer support and LOW PAY. Unless you are a supermodel .. expect to earn about $3 to $6 per hour, sitting and waiting and waiting in front of your computer or laptop. Sometimes up to 30 minutes for the next call! And just like most online English teaching companies; Cambly prefers to hire new teachers every few months. Why? Because, just like in China where they promise a future bonus system that they will never pay, by laying you off, but also mostly because they want to "save face"! Why? Because, the longer you work for a business, the more you know about the good and the BAD! This is common sense. Cambly pushed me out of the company by simply lowering my rating, and than just 2 days later via email .. I quote .. (Poor grammar): "We've gotten a few of reports from students that they were unable to find what they were looking for with you." This happened just 2 days after I finally told Cambly what I think about their pathetic rating system, due to the strange drop in my rating after just 4 phone calls!? That is Mathematically not possible. Just like in baseball when an early loss is a big change in %, but later in the season after 150 games, a loss is statistically meaningless, and on Cambly we are talking about thousands and thousands of calls. Thus .. I firmly believe that Cambly's rating system is MANUALLY created, and not what they claim as a calculation. Also, I firmly believe that I was also let go due to my religious and political views, and that goes against federal law! They simply manually decided to boot me due to my non-liberal views, especially during this Covid "crisis". Important Note: Cambly records and saves every single video class with your students. Something they do NOT make clear, including the fact that they record any other website activity while you are connected to Cambly! Other online companies make this clear up front. Nowadays they have the ability to track nearly every website and everything you do while connected to their website! This is an invasion of privacy. Over 10 months working for Cambly, I usually avoided political or religious issues, but sometimes students really wanted to talk about such things and also truly wanted my honest opinion, so I told them. Honesty is very important to me. The point of Cambly is to simply spend most time just talking. A student learns the most common spoken English words, and also the brain learns by listening to a native English speaker. But, of course, tutors also use lessons, websites, etc. DO NOT WORK FOR CAMBLY! PERIOD. They will not keep you for years if that is your desire. I know for a fact that many of my students were very happy with me and booked numerous future reservations. So, Cambly cannot convince me that I am a poor teacher. Nice try. Cambly favors new teachers. In other words they PREFER new teachers, just like every online English site based in China. This is soon very obvious to every single tutor after about 2 months on Cambly. In other words, new tutors are put at the top of the calling list, above all teachers, no matter their rating. And as I said, the rating system is a joke, and simply unfair; For example: It is human nature to give someone very attractive a higher rating than others .. and again I will say .. I firmly believe it is a MANUAL rating system. They admit that it is NOT an algorithm. And you will notice that everyone scores above a 4 out of 5. Everyone gets a B+, no matter how poor of a teacher you are, well of course, they can't have tutors with a low rating! My story is a true story! 2 days after sending an email to customer service questioning the rating system, I was simply let go, and I had many happy students (and was with Cambly for over 10 months)! I was happy with Cambly for the first few months, but slowly reality came to life , and I realized that I could probably not keep this job for a long time no matter what! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, unless you are okay with a temporary job and lies from customer service, including automated replies! This job will only help pay for food, not housing, etc. P.S. My rating was 4.83 for many months, than suddenly dropped to 4.80, which is a big change on Cambly. I knew something was going on, and when I gave my honest opinion about the strange and pathetic rating system, I will say it one last time .. they simply fired me .. for knowing too much.
