      Pros

      I've worked private and now I work state. When it comes to work life balance, I honestly couldn't ask for better. You get lots of time off because of holidays, the Union does well, and the benefits are second to none.

      Cons

      There is downtime. If you're used to private with the go go go attitude, transitioning to state service will be an adjustment BUT if your priority is family then you will appreciate the adjustment once you get used to it.

      * most executives and office chief leaderships are supportive and easy to talk to. * great diversity in the workplace, with many people from varying background being represented and promoted. * great work-life balance if you're a specialist.

      Cons

      * some senior branch chiefs end up working on weekends. * not specific to department, but state workers keep getting their raises cut.
