Pros
The reporters and until recently, the pay/benefits were the reason people still show up. Quarterly bonus was another pro until quarter three of 2015 when the new owner cut the payouts in half then eliminated the program.
Cons
Businesses merge and positions are eliminated, happens every day. However, the manner in which these latest cuts was handled is just wrong! The majority of the reporters and managers that lost their jobs were those with significant tenure and top performers! A few undechieving people were sprinkled in for good measure but it was clear the company was focused on removing those earning the highest salaries and those who were not afraid to speak up or push back. Benefits used to be a reason to work for this company but they are being eliminated one by one. Eliminating benefits began September 30th 2014 when volunteer days were eliminated. The most recent benefits to go away were the employee's ability to purchase up to five days of vacation. This month the reporters bonus program was cut in half without notice after bonuses had already been earned. Now we are told there are no more bonus plans and zero dollars for incentive plans and the ability to work from home will be completely dissolved by the end of 2015.
