Pros

CHRIMS offers a unique opportunity to learn financial accounting and settlements for pari mutuel wagering. This is not for everyone. It is rewarding, challenging, and never boring. I had no idea of the complexities involved in the work of horse racing. You get to touch many areas and CHRIMS allows you to gain a broad spectrum of skills.

Cons

It is a stressful work environment. This is due to the settlements must be completed daily. The systems need to be further streamlined.

Pros

*Entrepreneurial atmosphere - opportunities to grow and learn are abundant if you are not afraid of hard work *Super friendly co-workers and management *Steep learning curve (horse racing data is like learning Greek or Latin) but everyone is willing to help you learn and they are very patient *Excellent salary and benefits, much better than most employers *Opportunity to work on a variety of projects *Management gives you leeway in how you attack a project *Weekly meetings allow for increased collaboration and synergies

Cons

*There is pressure to meet deadlines - the stress is not for everybody *The learning curve is steep, particularly at first - if you are not willing to learn, this is not the place for you

Pros

I was hired as a data technician with very little experience in the field, and I was warned ahead of time that the job would be challenging, but it would be a valuable learning experience- and it was. My training began immediately- a combination of one-on-one with both management and other experienced team members, and a bit of being thrown into the deep end to see if I would sink or swim. That can be scary for some, but I think it also shows both CHRIMS as an employer and you as a potential employee whether or not this is the job for you. The training was thorough and extensive, and when I had questions there was always someone there to help with both an explanation, and by showing me through an example. The work was fast-paced and constant, but the team always helped each other to keep from becoming overwhelmed. Communications with other departments (local and remotely) was usually strong, and replies/feedback were swift, with everyone working towards the same goals. I was with the company for over 4 years, and I only left because I had dreams and goals I wanted to pursue elsewhere. If you’re looking for a well-paying job with room for growth, and a place where you feel like a valued team-member, look no further.

Cons

This job is not for everyone. If you aren’t looking for a job/career that challenge you, and requires you to learn and grow with the company, then this likely isn’t for you.
