Business outlook
Pros
Salary was good, and overtime was paid (as long as projects had budget), but the people is what made CDM enjoyable. Some of the nicest and smartest people seem to work at CDM. Many staff member's have their master's degree which leads to the office feeling very "academic".
Cons
If you are not a civil or electrical engineer the design process can be quite frustrating. Most of the project managers are civil engineers who do not fully understand how a building is built leading to quite a bit of redesign, even late into CDs. The projects typically felt very small, at least for the AES staff. Additionally as CDM Smith is a very large company change is difficult to acheive - most notably in the use of outdated software programs.
