Pros

Nice offices , supportive coworkers

Cons

While there are some capable individuals in the business, I found the overall standard of technical expertise, particularly in specialist areas, to be inconsistent. This made it difficult to have confidence in decision making and the quality of work being delivered. The leadership style was one of the biggest challenges. In my experience, it often felt superficial and, at times, undermining rather than supportive. There was a noticeable gap between how things were communicated publicly versus how people were treated behind the scenes, which created a lack of trust. Recognition and progression did not appear to be strongly linked to competence or performance. Instead, visibility and personality seemed to carry more weight, which can be frustrating in a professional services environment where technical ability should be fundamental. Workloads were demanding, with a strong emphasis on output and client delivery. Combined with limited flexibility, this contributed to an environment that felt unsustainable over time. Staff turnover was, in my view, a reflection of this. Overall, I did not find this to be a healthy or supportive working environment. Since leaving, I’ve experienced a significant improvement in both job satisfaction and how my work is valued. I would strongly encourage anyone considering joining to ask detailed questions about leadership approach, expectations, and support structures before accepting a role.

Pros

A few very nice people working there. A shame they’ll likely get ruined. CEO and CFO are bigggg spenders so the Xmas work do was nice, thanks! :)

Cons

A complete lack of any sort of hybrid work. It’s like a prison that you cannot escape. They prioritise their wallets over their employees happiness and mental health. The methods are questionable. When you calculate everything, you sit in a meeting with the CFO who then tells you to increase the percentages of involvement and usage just to increase the value of the claim. Totally not weird or dodgy 🤔 Overall, I’m glad I’ve left. CBTax will never appear on my LinkedIn nor my CV as itself. For the rest of my life if anyone asks me about the place I worked at during this time I will just say it was a random tax firm. If you care about yourself and your mental wellbeing it is truly not a place for you. Everyone who is not a director (weird how many of them there are now!!!) is just not respected whatsoever. They’re not real people, they do not matter to anybody who is any higher. Moving away from the management though, some staff themselves are horrid. Bullying management behind their backs, saying nasty stuff and making fun of people. It was truly like working with high schoolers.

Pros

I joined CBTax just over a year ago and have really enjoyed my time with the company so far. - great office in Manchester, and other locations have lovely offices too. - all team members are friendly, and everyone gets on well. - great for those who thrive in a fast paced environment. Appreciate this may not be for everyone but it definetly works for me. - lots of room for progression. Hard work doesn’t go unmissed and this leads to great career progression opportunities. - benefits such as bupa health care. - senior members are friendly, approachable and supportive. - exposure to many different industries and projects. - the role is dynamic and interesting, no two days/projects are the same which is something I particularly like.

Cons

No cons I can think of.
