Pros

Decent benefits, and the people you interact with will be very outgoing and intelligent. It is likely that the company will see success financially.

Cons

Management essentially ruins any "vibe" you may try to instill. There is a culture of some fairly cruel in-jokes that make individuals feel at fault for systemic problems and poor planning. There is no clear budget for initiatives so product features end up being built inefficiently and individual contributors are either in a state of firefighting or cost cutting modes of operation. Product focuses and decisions are seemingly made via dart board and customer demands are very poorly communicated. Teams are not well organized and mission remits are vague. Ticketing in engineering is a mess, and projects are better described as never ending crunch time with people just going into their own silos and building what they *think* meets product and customer requirements. The technology stack is frustrating to work with, developer automation tools are subpar. There is a general lack of direction on how assets and source code should be maintained. The commit histories are a mess, and people regularly commit code to main without tickets.

Pros

Button has a dynamic work environment. They are pushing hard into new types of Ad inventory that is starting to get traction so there's no shortage of exciting projects.

Cons

If you are on the West coast, the time difference is a drag but getting to go to NYC every once in a while sort of makes up for it.

Pros

- unlimited PTO (if you can actually use it) - new office

Cons

Continually cost cutting projects, dumpster fire fighting, or projects shafted after months of work with no empathy. I understand priorities can shift in a start up environment, but there is no clear direction across product and engineering, which instills no trust in senior leaders and they don't seem to care about employee morale. Employees questioning their decision to work here so soon after getting hired is not good. CRO is power hungry and always looking to show her "knowledge", when really she just acts like a dictator, that's not leadership. The immense lack of respect, rudeness, and condescension is disturbing, with the attitude of "get it done or else". Which results in fear and stress to get things submitted without proper QC or even a ticket. When managers start blaming their teams instead of taking accountability, that's when you know the company isn't headed anywhere good. If you want to feel burnout your first month, Button is the company for you. They say you "wear a lot of hats", but you're not paid for it either, which eats away at your quality of life and you start dreading going to work each week.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience at Button has not met the high standard we strive to create for our team members. We recognize that startup environments can be demanding and that periods of change and shifting priorities can create stress for teams. That said, team members should always feel respected, supported, and clear on how their work connects to company goals. Feedback around burnout, communication, and cross-functional alignment is something we take seriously. Over the past year, we’ve continued investing in improving how teams collaborate, prioritize work, and support employee development, and we know there is always more work to do. Honest feedback — even when difficult to hear — helps us identify areas where we can improve as leaders and as an organization. We appreciate you sharing your perspective; we would invite you to email us at people@usebutton.com if you would like to discuss any of your feedback directly with us; we're always open to learning, growing, and adapting.
