Pros

There are no pros to working in this company. I do not recommend anyone look at a career within BT.

Cons

They lie. They do not come through with promises. ‘Bonuses’ and salary are a joke. I was promised the world when i interviewed with BT. I accepted a position but in the end they were unclear as to what they really wanted me to do. I was given tasks to do that my ‘manager’ had also given another staff member. Of course this created friction in the office that was totally not needed at the time. My manager was inexperienced and does not even like his client. The care factor of the company when it comes to clients is nil. They do not care about client experience, although they sprout off about how much they DO care all the time. Customers are second to the mighty dollar, unfortunately. Wrong people are employed for positions they are not qualified for, creating a bully culture. People who are excellent at their jobs are fired simply because one of the bullies does not like them. Upper management are weak and do not know or understand their clients, and only want to chase the $$. ‘Responsible Travel’ is their buzzword but they do not really live by it. It is only going to work if they can make a LOT of money from it. Staff are not listened to, even when they are asked to contribute. There is a lot of favouritism between management and general staff, with a few ‘golden children’ in the ranks who are not necessarily good at heir job. The company wants to expand into different areas such as MICE but they do not have the expertise to do so successfully. The hypocrisy and corruption in the company is everywhere if you open your eyes. Management do not back up staff. I had a major issue with a supplier and my manager, in a serious meeting with the company, sat there with nothing at all to say, leaving the GM if the supplier thinking I had a personal beef with him (I did not). The company places unrealistic demands on hotels and suppliers with promises that they cannot possibly fulfil.

Pros

High visibility in the Asian travel market. Plenty of opportunities to go on tour observations in the marketing department. Fairly nice people working in the company.

Cons

There's very little consistent management from basically every level. The nepotism and corruption runs rampant within the company despite efforts to reduce it (old habits die hard, especially within Vietnam). There's very little in the way of unified direction, which feels like it should be key given how quickly the company has expanded to other countries. It feels like a very transparent bid to squeeze as much money out of the operation as possible, which often means pushing out products before they are ready or tested properly. The corporate overlord that is Flight Centre are a flimsy shell for unadulterated greed, which is unfortunate given that Buffalo Tours could lead responsible travel in the region if top level management in Flight Centre would care about much else than to line their pockets.
