Family-owned Newspaper Company Founded 1919! - Anonymous employee Brehm Communications Employee Review

Brehm Communications was the owner of the local community newspaper that I worked with. The Uintah Basin Standard in Roosevelt, UT. I worked there for a year and three months. Working at the Standard gave me journalism experience, professional communication skills with people in various, different job fields. and good experience.

On the day of my termination, the publisher had informed the rest of the staff that Brehm had sold the newspaper, and I was terminated because of poor performance reviews which I had no input with. They are a company based out in California, and my interactions with the company included the HR department. There's nothing bad that I can say about Brehm Communications, but I realize today that they had undercut me with low pay.

The publishers and staff are almost all - to a person - pleasant to work with and genuinely trying to do their best. Open to feedback from corporate, willing to learn new things to strengthen their skills and their livelihood. Generally good and honest individuals.

The publishers and sales teams are given directives with no follow-up support from corporate leadership. Their requests and input for the most part go unheard, and more urgent requests by email and phone almost entirely ignored. Essentially the properties are left to fend for themselves in an industry that truly requires all the leadership involvement and support it can handle - just to survive.
