Pros

the administrative folks/corporate (outside leadership) are great and try to do the right thing. The technology is interesting, but has a long way to go.

Cons

I’m posting a review so that the next person who is doing their due diligence in assessing a job at BrainScope can make an informed decision and hopefully not make the same mistake that many of the sales members joining the team made. I left a job where I was having great success and making well over 200k a year to pursue what I thought was a startup opportunity that was going to be lucrative, likely to make an average of 200k+, quick growth/ leaderships opportunities, and a sales process of 6 months- a year with endless opportunity for something that was “completely reimbursable.” Joining BrainScope regrettably became my biggest lesson/regret in my career thus far. After your guarantee runs out, anticipate making just your salary- this is very important to factor in when deciding to change your career. What you can expect: travelling constantly and working with endless distributors who are turning over/ just as unable to sell the product. Leadership is always looking for scapegoats and never takes responsibility for their decisions and can’t provide metrics or real measures of proven data to support how goals can be achieved. This is not a secure place to take a job, as the company is bleeding money and once people leave they hire new people and provide higher titles to entice folks to take the role and also promise them unachievable things. The technology is interesting however, the company has a long way to go to get it to be valuable enough for hospitals to bring on. If pursuing an interview with this company, I implore you do your research and consider asking these questions and getting the supporting documentation so that nothing can be sugarcoated/gas lit. Contact a current salesperson who has been with the company longer than 6 months (maybe there are 2 left if they are still there) What is the turnover rate at this company/why is it so high? What’s the actual timeline to close a deal/how many hospitals closing average per rep. Reimbursement- if providers can only bill for something that is close to an hour, how can they bill for this is this product “takes less than 15 minutes” – a reason I joined this company was being that I was told its completely reimbursable- ask questions around it and don’t accept answers that don’t feel right. The ceo and her criminal case at her previous company…. Of course, everyone’s experience is different, but many sales reps feel the same so please do your research and contact those who have done the job- this may be a good fit for you but it wasn’t for me. This company has a toxic culture that starts at the top- the company never has a concrete plan with measurable data- they make decisions based off what they want, vs what’s realistic with the appropriate resources. They change their plans on a quarterly basis and find their new shiny thing that they believe will save the day, then when that fails (due to no plan in place), they blame that shiny thing for all their loss and it all starts again. No place is perfect, especially in medical device, but If I could go back in time, I would never have taken this job.

Pros

I’ve learned so much - grown professionally and personally with the company

Cons

Too many chiefs, not enough tribesmen. Meaning this is a too heavy company and I think they should focus resources on the boots on the ground

Pros

-Complete freedom to build the company's engineering product and all the processes, including use of regulatory standards, hiring up and training staff, support setting up manufacturing and DMR, being involved in the QMS/DHF/DHR/Risk Management File, supporting regulatory submissions, and learning from one's own mistakes as part of continual improvement. No company takes a bet on you like that without already being both management and a technical lead/principal. -Involvement in corporate strategy & hearing from both the board and stakeholders of the product. -Great engineering staff that works well together, leading and taking care of what needs to be done on their own accord -Being able to potentially change the way that brain assessment is being done for traumatic brain injury (TBI) and other neurological ailments, allowing you to pour your vision into your department -Engineers incorporate ISO 13485 in their everyday worklives -Living in the DC/Bethesda area, you often meet a number of people connected to the EEG and TBI field outside the company on your own. Just stay mum and don't spill any corporate secrets. -Healthy snacks offered by the company. -Metro and commuter accessible

Cons

-Limited previous engineering management & medical device experience is evident (forces employee heroics), operational liabilities typical of small companies (but they hired a COO) -Pay is lower than most places (especially in the DMV area), workload is significantly higher, and titles are not reflective of responsibility, but you don't join the company for those things (You join for the vision taking whatever sacrifices necessary). -Not many good food options at East-West highway location; -People don't always clean up after themselves in the kitchen (water jug, paper towel, dishes, etc.)
