Pros
- Great mission, powerful work - Services that have a real impact on people's lives
Cons
- This organization is so beyond exploitative. Employees are underpaid and it's relied on that people will pick up the slack because they believe in the cause. Guess what? That's not enough if your people can't survive on the money you pay them or aren't paid market value for their work. It's common in nonprofits for work to be taxing sometimes and for everyone who signs on to be committed to the mission, but it's not an excuse to pay your staff less than what they deserve for years, not promote them. The organization is not giving staff any value compared to the amount of emotional stress staff are asked to take on. - There's been lack of leadership from all levels of the organization, beginning at the executive director level. Staff are not supported and employees of color are not heard, or at worst, are forced out. Change takes time, but leadership issues go beyond what I saw.
