Pros
In the Field = You'll probably get to work with kids and it's cool to see them smile when they see you in your Boosterthon uniform walking around campus. In the Home Office = They use Macs to get work done which is way better than PC. The company used to take employees to Mexico each winter, but that has stopped.
Cons
Short version: Look elsewhere for employment. You won't find money, purpose, or transferrable experience here. Long version: When you're looking for a place to work, you're probably looking for some combination of these three things: Money, Purpose, or Transferrable Experience. Booster won't meet your needs in any of these areas. Money = During my time with the company, I found out that it's Booster's policy to pay employees under market value for their work. When pressed, HR will say that they pay a lower wage so that more money can be devoted to research and development, but many of the senior leadership drive Audis and BMWs. Actually, it's quite nice when your department has a day trip to one of Booster Leadership's many lake houses, but you won't own one yourself. It's not okay to sacrifice the well being of your employees for corporate growth, Booster. What's more, Booster literally has it's own employee-funded employee assistance program where you as an employee will be encouraged to forfeit part of your paycheck in order to help other employees with essential needs like doctor visits and car repairs. That said, the funds in BlueBridge are controlled by HR, so if they don't like you, you don't get assistance. Essentially, Booster is paying their people garbage and expecting other employees to pick up the slack. Purpose = As you're being wooed to Booster, you'll be told about what a great "leadership opportunity" the company is. The truth is, in the field you'll spend your days pushing cheaply made toys on kids, but don't worry, you prayed together with your team at the start of the day, so it's okay. In the Home Office, the only growth you'll experience will be due to the struggle that you'll face. Many don't make it through the first year, but no one will tell you that. Expect to work 50-hour weeks for no extra pay. If you're new, expect to be stuck with the grunt work that no one wants to do. Transferrable Skills = The senior leadership team at Booster are mostly retirees who are riding out the rest of their lives or unskilled entrepreneurs who helped start the company and were promoted as a reward for sticking around after being paid so little. Don't expect these promotions to come your way, however, all of the senior positions are filled and no one up top is planning to exit any time soon. Many of the senior leadership haven't worked at another company. Other Points = If you're a woman, expect to not get the same opportunities your male coworkers do. If you're some alternative gender or sexuality, you definitely won't fit in even if you make it through the selective recruiting process. It's Booster's policy to not give professional references once you leave the company, so don't expect to have anything to show for your time spent slaving away. Home office employees don't take field employees seriously.
