Pros

The lower and mid-level people are great and the mission is inspiring.

Cons

The top level management has turned over several times in the company's short history and the CEO can't keep a team together. Mismanagement from the CEO causes chaos through the organization and the team can't manage or meet project deadlines. Boom has blown through funding that was intended for goals and benchmarks that are long overdue, and are not even close to completion. Two of three founders have left the company and turnover in management roles is multiples above industry standards. As a pre-revenue company the future of Boom is dependent upon a Series C raise, but the community understands that it is no longer a sound investment. Take a look at the early targets and goals publicized by the company in 2017 and compare them to where they are today. The CEO is a fantastic story teller and visionary, but likens himself to Jeff Bezos as an operational leader. The results paint a very different picture; he can't achieve goals.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. Turnover can happen in start-ups evaluating the right leadership to move the business forward. I’m confident that we’re in a great place today with our leadership team. We’ve been fortunate to hire industry leaders in their respective fields. We have achieved multiple goals in 2022 including announcing our Superfactory site in Greensboro, NC, another airline customer in American Airlines, several supplier partnerships, and a strategic partnership with Northop Grumman. While your review is from 2020, we believe if you were writing this today, the results would paint a different picture. ~Anne

Pros

Engaging work, great people and culture. Awesome place to work with lots of opportunities to solve cool, hard problems and make a real impact as an individual contributor.

Cons

Potential con for some, requires full time in office in Centennial. Great amenities on site, flexibility in working hours, and fun in office culture I think are strong pros.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Solving hard problems alongside talented teammates, and giving individuals the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, is a big part of what makes Boom special. We also appreciate the perspective on our in-office environment. We recognize that an on-site culture isn’t for everyone, but collaboration is a core part of how we operate. We’re committed to creating an environment where teams can work closely together while also providing flexibility, great amenities, and a workplace people genuinely enjoy being part of. - People Team

Pros

Extreme ownership. There are very few guardrails. You define your path, and you’re trusted to execute. High talent density. The people here are exceptional. Technically strong, mission-driven, collaborative, and most of all kind. Flat, engineer-first organization. Minimal bureaucracy. No useless management layers. Real, impactful hardware. You work on huge, meaningful technical challenges every day. Mission-driven culture. Everyone feels that what we’re building will matter historically. Supportive environment. Leadership empowers teams to tackle ambitious problems and backs them up. Great onboarding and welcoming culture. Startup energy with thoughtful perks. Strong breakroom culture, weekly breakfast, meals when working late, small things that make long pushes sustainable. Smart, pragmatic business strategy. The approach makes sense: build and sell an IGT with lower regulatory hurdles now, use it to generate revenue and validate technology, and apply those lessons toward safely moving people around the world at supersonic speeds.

Cons

Not a place to coast. Expectations are high and accountability is real. Ambiguity comes with ownership. If you need detailed guardrails and predefined paths, this may feel uncomfortable. Pace and pressure. Big goals mean intense execution cycles. Direct feedback culture. Feedback here is candid and frequent. If you’re uncomfortable with authentic, real-time input on your work, this environment can feel challenging, but it’s also how people grow quickly.
