Pros

Every day is an adventure! I am genuinely excited about coming to work every single day. I have been given the unique opportunity to be a part of a growing, evolving organization and I get to help shape it. We are doing things differently at BKE, and as a result, have to figure things out as we go. We are building processes, building organization structure and changing the industry in everything we do. We are definitely NEVER bored. I am lucky enough to have great leadership whose vision I can not only embrace, but motivates me and my team. I have been given the opportunity to build and lead a team of managers, bookkeepers and analysts with awesome passion and drive. And the best part… they actually pay me to do this!!!

Cons

There is no model for us to follow. We have to plan, execute and regroup regularly. Some things don’t work. We are a learning organization and as such, typical linear accountants don’t thrive here. We have to be flexible always, all ways.

Pros

collected a pay check.Flexible Work Hours: While there was pressure, the flexibility to work remotely or adjust hours was a benefit. Gained Valuable Experience: I did gain hands-on experience in bookkeeping and client management, which was helpful for my career development. Opportunities for Learning: Despite the lack of formal training, there were opportunities to learn quickly and handle complex tasks. Small Team Environment: The small team environment allowed for more direct involvement in projects and the ability to wear multiple hats. Remote Work Option: The ability to work remotely was a plus, especially when balancing personal commitments.

Cons

Toxic Atmosphere: From the top down, the environment at BKE was incredibly toxic. There was constant pressure without proper support, and it was common for management to place blame on employees rather than addressing real issues within the company’s operations. This led to a lot of stress and burnout among staff. Unprofessional Leadership: The CEO and upper management often communicated in a rude and dismissive manner, making it difficult to approach them with concerns or suggestions. If something went wrong, the immediate response was to shift blame to the employees rather than working collaboratively to resolve problems. It felt like management was more interested in avoiding accountability than supporting their team. Lack of Resources and Training: Employees were expected to meet unrealistic deadlines and handle complex tasks without adequate training or resources. New hires were often thrown into the deep end with little guidance, and when things inevitably went wrong, they were blamed instead of being supported and trained properly. This created a lot of frustration among the team. No Work-Life Balance: The work environment at BKE was demanding and draining, with little regard for work-life balance. There was often pressure to work late hours, and it was not uncommon to receive requests or emails in the middle of the night, expecting immediate responses. This contributed to the stressful atmosphere and left little room for personal time. Lack of Respect: I experienced and witnessed multiple instances where employees were spoken to rudely or belittled in front of others. There was no sense of respect or appreciation for the hard work the team put in, which made it difficult to stay motivated or feel valued.
