I worked less than a week and was fired once I got ill from the heat. I was all right in the areas where they had a fan, but in the less ventilated areas I began to feel sick from heat exhaustion and a headache. I spoke to the lead and was sent to the safety room. A mere 45 minutes later (!) my agency sends a message saying my placement has been cancelled, and when I ask the reason they said, it was because the company felt it would not be suitable for me because of the heat. Agreed, the heat was too much for me to work there but is that a 'fault' of the worker? What sort of company fires someone for having what is a health and safety issue - I was told by a company rep that they are *really* big on health and safety. They probably want the next worker to not complain and pass out in the heat. Someone checked in on me while in the sick room to ask if I was all right. I thought it was some official way of showing concern, but I later realized they were finding out my name so they could fire me. Other workers seemed to handle the heat better than myself, but then there are those who also manage heavy backbreaking labour more than others - so that is no excuse. This company uses raised pallet jacks/pumps to lift products from to lessen the bending, so why not use more fans to protect even one or more employees from the heat? Other minor issues: A total break time of one hour in a 12 hour shift! Usual spying and monitoring. They have a huge sign in the warehouse saying 'Continuous Improvement' - which is preposterous. Anyone who fires someone, (even a temp worker) in 45 minutes once they get ill from the workplace is far from interested in improvement. Companies like this should go out of business.
