Pros

Summer Fridays, cheap vending machine, good if you like a start up environment (even though they should be way past that by now)

Cons

Working at Bluefly was brutal. In the many years I was there, I was expected to take on the responsibilities of several superiors. I was never asked, just expected. For this I received no promotion, no raise, not even a thank you. Worse, I was constantly criticized for my work by upper management from other departments who had no clue what they were talking about, and shouldn't have had authority over me in the first place. I also worked 12+ hour days throughout the holidays with no acknowledgement whatsoever. While at Bluefly I saw disaster after disaster occur including undeserved promotions and terrible financial decisions. I won't even get into the mess that is the Bluefly marketplace.

Bluefly Response

We appreciate this Associate's comments. Bluefly welcomes all feedback, both positive and negative. Negative responses cause us to either change course of action or better communicate action we're already taking to make the company a better place to work. We treat our associates with the utmost respect and we reward and promote where appropriate and necessary. When working in the retail industry, extra hours around the holidays are the norm for any company and although we are putting in the extra hours, we always ensure our associates understand just how much we appreciate them for doing so.

Pros

You can't be negative here or you're going to get nowhere. I'm lucky to have really great people on my team who I work with everyday and who I can depend on. I realize that other teams might not be so lucky. Bluefly has a start-up environment which means all hands on deck...your effort actually has a great affect on the success of the company. Being here has taught me a lot in terms of working in the retail fashion industry and just overall time management, organization, and interpersonal skills. Should I ever move on in the future, I believe that I would be equipped to do so ten fold.

Cons

Like I said, I have a great team, but I do have some gripes with the accountability of other teams. It seems like there isn't really a standard held across the entire company which can make it frustrating and hard to do my job sometimes. My team tends to pick up the slack a lot and management seems to be okay with this more than I would like. Despite this, I do think that it has gotten significantly better since I've started, and steps are still being actively taken to improve this issue. I am optimistic that we will get to a place where everyone will eventually be on the same page.
