Pros
I started working at Bluestar AMG in 2011, I had just graduate university and decided to do an internship there for two week in the Shanghai office. I arrived in Shanghai not knowing anyone at all and made friends with everyone from people in my position to the Managers. After the two weeks and numerous interviews I was given a full time position as a Sales Coordinator. I travelled to Beijing and Seoul with my Senior Consultant and eventually ended up settling in Beijing for over a year. I had a fantastic 3 years at the company, took numerous exams and learnt a lot. The only reason I left was because I wanted to return back to London. What I really enjoyed about the company is that there is no hierarchy so you work very closely with numerous professionals who have been in the industry for 10+ years which means a lot for someone straight out of university
Cons
Apart from the analysis and back office roles, the rest are very sales focused. Of course to build a client bank you need to have sound financial acumen and qualification which the company insist on but you still need to close business. For the Sales Coordinator and Associate roles, you have to be energetic and motivated everyday to pick up the phone and also be good at handling rejection which on an off day is quite hard. Also it does take a good few months to actually start earning commission but this is quite typical in any financial advisory job in any company around the world.
